Who We Are
St. Tammany Outreach for the Prevention of Suicide — STOPS — was founded in December 2001 in response to a community need that could no longer go unaddressed. St. Tammany Parish has one of the highest suicide rates in Louisiana, running approximately 18% above the state average.
For more than two decades, STOPS has worked across the Florida Parishes to change that — through education, awareness, and direct community support.
Our mission is suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. That means we work to prevent suicide before it happens, provide the skills needed to intervene when someone is in crisis, and support those left behind after a loss.
